Llanfairfechan Town Council was formed after the re-organisation of Local Government in 1974. In comparison with the former Urban District Council the current Town Council has lesser powers and responsibilities, but still plays an important and valuable role in the day to day administration of the town and its affairs.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected annually by fellow councillors. We employ three part time members of staff; the Town Clerk who is also the Responsible Financial Officer, Admin Assistant, and an Environmental Operative who maintains the cleanliness of the town centre and the promenade.
Listed below are duties we carry out;
- We are responsible for the maintenance of the Cenotaph at Aber Road and organise the Remembrance Sunday Service with local Churches; we are the pick-up point for the collection of poppy wreaths that have been pre-ordered either through the Town Clerk or directly from The Royal British Legion in Conwy.
- We organise the annual fireworks display.
- Award grants to voluntary run organisations in Llanfairfechan - terms and conditions apply.
- Provide Community Skips on a monthly basis for domestic use only.
We contribute annually to:
- Llanfairfechan Tourism and Amenities Association to help maintain the website; to also provide summer entertainment on the Promenade and print tourism information leaflets, postcards and souvenirs.
- Maintain and purchase new Christmas lights.
- Llanfairfechan Community Hall Association towards the up-keep of the hall.
- Town Twinning Association and we also participate in exchanges and visits.
- Llanfairfechan Community Events Committee
- Llanfairfechan Community Library Group towards the sustainability of the library service.
- Work in partnership with Conwy County Borough Council.
- Managing the public toilets in Village Road.
Maintaining the core footpaths and bridleways.
- Contribute towards the maintenance of bus shelters.
- Contribute towards the improvements of all play areas in the town.
